My current project is a study of world history in the context of four lifestyles (nomadic, pastoral, agrarian, & urban) based on changing forms of geographic units [Shazras] & demographic identities [Shirazas); and topographic imperatives [mountains, deserts, valleys, forests] that underpin human consciousness of ecology, natural resources and technological potential to exploit material and human nature.
The seminar series serves as a curtain raiser for the project. A series of texts entitled Anatomy of the Process of History; and Historiography the Hostile Witness [books I & II] have been finalized. Draft texts of Urdu books on the same subject entitled عملِ تاریخ کی تین تال اور تاریخ نگاری پر عائد فردِ جرم along with their audio versions are available for feedback. As of 13/2/25 work has begun on extension and revision of the Urdu texts. These are more detailed and nuanced than the English texts and therefore need time to be completed. If the English version is considered to be the finished grey-structure of a building, the Urdu version of the project is intended to be a decorated and refined living establishment, complete with furniture and fixtures. The English text of Historiography – The Hostile witness gives an overview of the history of the world since the start of civilized life and outlines the extension of urban living from the humble beginning of three small patches c.3000 BC to four mega-shazras by 500 BC and from there to six and then ten between 1500 AD and 1800 AD. The Urdu version is expected to consist of a number of books dealing with the internal dynamics within the mega-shazras as they continued to evolve during five millennia.
It is a study in the parallel evolution of human awareness of tangible and intangible realities within three epistgemic traditions [analytical – holistic -organic] in the pursuit of enquiry and belief by shazras [composites of space in time] and shirazas [composites of ethnicities].
It postulates that normally societies are formed by conglomeration of ethnic groups. This creates a process termed ethno-genesis by Russian scholars; a similar process takes place with language. This I have termed as “lingua-genesis”. Together these create a mixed culture of the new society which is the essence of the Identity of the shiraza so formed. The new culture also carries residue of the cultural baggage of the shiraza in the form of previous traditions.
Every shazra in history is a watershed to the extent of its internal evolution. At the same time, it is a part of the continuum of human evolution. Shazras change shape with time and form various links with the then current geography of the world.
رواں تحقیق میں اۤج کل عالمی تاریخ کا بیانیہ کا ایک مختلف زاویہ نگاہ پیش کر رہا ہوں۔ اس کا تعارف ایک سیمینار سیریز کے وصیلے سے کیا گیا ہے۔ اس کے تحریری بیان کا ایک حصہ انگریزی میں ہے جس میں بیشتر نظریات درج ہیں اور عالمی تاریخ کا ایک اجمالی جائزہ بھی۔ اس کے بیان کا دوسرا حصہ اردو میں ہے جس کے بیشتر بیانیہ کو پڑھ کر ریکارڈ کر دیا گیا ہے تاکہ وہ لوگ جو اردو سمجھتے ہوں لیکن پڑھ نہ سکتے ہوں۔ اس کی مدد سے بیانیہ تک رسائی حاصل کر لیں۔ اس کی تحریری شکل بھی یہاں موجود ہے۔ لیکن اب بھی اردو کے بیانیہ پر کام جاری ہے اوربیان مرتب کیا جارہا ہے۔ اس لیے حصہ کے تحریری اور پڑھ کر سنائے جانے والے حصون کی ترمیم اور تصحیح ہوتی رہے گی۔
تحقیقی مضامین کا سلسلہ تقریباً ختم ہو چکا ہے لیکن کبھی شاید کوئی اور مضمون بھی اس فہرست میں شامل ہو جائے۔ البتہ مین امید کرتا ہوں کہ میرے دوستوں میں سے کوئی اگر انہی موضوعات سے متعلق کوئی مضمون لکھ کر اس فہرست میں اپنے نام سمیت شایع کرنا چاہے تو اس سلسلے کو جاری رکھ کر میری دلچسپیوں کے بیانات میں اضافہ کرنے کا ارادہ کرلیں گے۔ یہی بات باقی سب موضوعات کے بارے میں بھی کہی جا سکتی ہے۔ شروع کرنے کا ذمہ تو مجھ پر عائد یو سکتا ہے لیکن ان باتوں میں اگر کوئی صداقت اور افادیت ہے تو ہر خیر خواہ سے درخواست ہے کہ اس کو آگے بڑھانے میں میری مدد کریں ۔یہ ہم سب کی ویبسائٹ ہے
